Fruit We Grow

Heritage apple day. Just a few varieties!
Heritage apple day. Just a few varieties!

We grow over 50 varieties of apples as well as pear and plum trees. We grow heritage and unusual varieties in order to preserve them. Plus, they taste better than some of the new varieties grown more for size, colour and storage and travel ability than taste!

We have apples in the store until we close in December. We’ve listed the varieties we grow starting with the earliest fruit picked in August and ending with those picked in October. Not all trees have apples every year and many things can affect both the size of the crop and the apples. We do make use of every apple.

You may have noticed that we are changing much of the orchard to a trellis system with smaller high density trees. The new trees are supported by trellis and wires. This makes it easier for us to tend the trees but the wires make it dangerous for anyone but staff to wander into the orchard.
