Fruit Varieties
Fruit We Grow
There are over 50 varieties of apples as well as pear and plum trees. We grow heritage and unusual varieties in order to preserve them. Plus, they taste better than some of the new varieties grown more for size, colour and storage and travel ability than taste!
We had apples in the store until we closed in December. We’ve listed the varieties that grow starting with the earliest fruit picked in August and ending with those picked in October. Not all trees have apples every year and many things can affect both the size of the crop and the apples. We made use of every apple.
We changed much of the orchard to a trellis system with smaller high density trees. The new trees are supported by trellis and wires. This makes it easier for us to tend the trees but the wires make it dangerous for anyone but staff to wander into the orchard.
